Having the responsibility to be one day the King and Queen of a nation is not an easy task and everyone needs a break from it. Reportedly, the ‘oh-so perfect’ fairytale Royal marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton is ‘not all sweetness.’
Tom Quinn claims in his book Gilded Youth: An Intimate History of Growing Up in the Royal Family that Prince William and Kate fight behind closed doors just as much as a regular couple. According to Marie Claire magazine, Tom gets his information from interviewing palace staff and insiders.
The couple may have sweet names like ‘babe’ or ‘babykins’ for each other, but they’re also not immune to having terrible fights with each other. During an interview with Fox News Digital, Quinn revealed:
Someone at the palace told me about the nicknames they have for each other. But it’s not all sweetness.
They have terrible rows where they throw things at each other. Kate might seem to be a very calm person, and William also. But it’s not always true.
Because the big stress for William and Kate is that they’re constantly surrounded by [palace aides]. It’s like a Jane Austen novel.
The Royal author also claimed that Kate Middleton had to go through a 'shocking' protocol before getting married to Prince William.
Prince William and Kate Middleton often try to present them as relatable to other people. Kate even once said:
Like every other couple, we have days when we are really, really cross with each other, or days when we don’t talk to each other.
But from Quinn’s description, Kate is the one who always ends up solving the issue. Quinn wrote:
Kate is very much the calm one. William is the one who’s a bit hotheaded. We see an example of that in Harry’s book… But Kate is very level-headed.
She’s the one who will pour oil on troubled waters and go, 'Let’s not stir things up.’
Kate is an appeaser by instinct and William always gives way as he had more than enough emotional turmoil, divorce and disruption as a child. He hates confrontation.
